Wiring Explained
Mains powered Ei Electronics smoke and heat alarms require a 230V AC power supply and up to 12 alarms can be hardwire interlinked in one system.
To obtain a mains power supply, each alarm can be connected to the nearest lighting circuit using 2 core and earth cable with a separate, dedicated interlink cable connecting alarms where applicable. However, if possible it is recommended that any alarms connected via interlink cable are all powered from a dedicated circuit from the distribution board using 3 core and earth cable for safety during maintenance, as the interlink cable will carry power from live alarms on other power circuits. Yes, the Ei3103 range, Ei3100RF - Ionisation Smoke Alarm Ei3105RF - Optical Smoke Alarm Ei3103RFU - Heat Alarm, interconnect with each other. If one sounds it will send a radio-signal to the other units and they will then be activated.
The Ei3100RF series of battery operated smoke alarms are complete alarms, they do not require base plates to make them radio interlinked.
There are three different alarms that make up the Ei3100 series. The Ei3100 optical alarm does have a hush button, which can be pressed to reset the alarm should a false alarm occur. The ionisation and heat alarms do not have hush buttons. Should either of these alarms trigger a false alarm, due to cooking fumes for example, the alarm can be silenced using a folded newspaper to fan underneath it. To identify which alarm has triggered the false alarm it is the unit with a rapidly flashing red LED.
Yes that is correct, the radio frequency technology in these alarms allows them to be connected wirelessly. This is acheived by following the step by step house coding procedure in the instructions, the procedure ensures that all alarms in the series are 'tuned in' to each other allowing them to pass messages on. If a fire was to occur in your roof space the alarm located up there would sound and send a message to the alarm downstairs which would then sound to alert anybody in the premises.
If one alarm was to malfunction the other units would not be affected, if it was due to alarm failure. If the fault was with the radio-interlinking signal, then all alarms that are in the chain after the faulty alarm would be affected and they would not go off.

Works fine, but secure syncing with other units tricky to verify. Works fine, but the yellow LED that flashes to confirm radio sync is too quick, and with 12 units connected, it's almost impossible to confirm you are secure with the other alarms - although this is just a security gizmo - all alarms will sound if in radio range of each other. Slow down the flash rate please EI, with a long pause between the count. Better still, a bi-colour LED to indicate the count start ...
