Product Overview

The Ei3100RF series of smoke and heat alarms are battery operated and have a built-in radio-interlink facility. Requiring no wiring whatsoever, up to 12 alarms can be interlinked to form a single system and the interlink is achieved wirelessly by radio signal. When one alarm sounds, it sends a signal to all other interlinked alarms and sounds those too. This radio-interlinked feature provides occupants with the earliest possible warning of fire.

Wiring Explained

Mains powered Ei Electronics smoke and heat alarms require a 230V AC power supply and up to 12 alarms can be hardwire interlinked in one system.

To obtain a mains power supply, each alarm can be connected to the nearest lighting circuit using 2 core and earth cable with a separate, dedicated interlink cable connecting alarms where applicable. However, if possible it is recommended that any alarms connected via interlink cable are all powered from a dedicated circuit from the distribution board using 3 core and earth cable for safety during maintenance, as the interlink cable will carry power from live alarms on other power circuits. FAQs (11)
Q. Do the three types of Ei3103 alarms interconnect with each other?
A.

Yes, the Ei3103 range, Ei3100RF - Ionisation Smoke Alarm Ei3105RF - Optical Smoke Alarm Ei3103RFU - Heat Alarm, interconnect with each other. If one sounds it will send a radio-signal to the other units and they will then be activated.

Q. Is the Ei3105RF a complete smoke alarm or does it need a base?
A.

The Ei3100RF series of battery operated smoke alarms are complete alarms, they do not require base plates to make them radio interlinked.

Q. Does the Ei3100 battery operated radio linked series have a hush button? If not how are false alarms dealt with?
A.

There are three different alarms that make up the Ei3100 series. The Ei3100 optical alarm does have a hush button, which can be pressed to reset the alarm should a false alarm occur. The ionisation and heat alarms do not have hush buttons. Should either of these alarms trigger a false alarm, due to cooking fumes for example, the alarm can be silenced using a folded newspaper to fan underneath it. To identify which alarm has triggered the false alarm it is the unit with a rapidly flashing red LED.

Q. Do the following items work together Ei407 callpoint, Ei3100 smoke and heat alarms, Ei410TRF wireless remote control switch?
A.

Yes, all the products listed are compatible. After purchase they do need to be house coded together to ensure they work correctly.

Q. Where more than one radio-interlinked battery operated smoke alarm is installed, if the battery in one alarm failed would the other alarms be affected?
A.

If one alarm was to malfunction the other units would not be affected, if it was due to alarm failure. If the fault was with the radio-interlinking signal, then all alarms that are in the chain after the faulty alarm would be affected and they would not go off.

Q. Do I need to take out all the batteries in my radio-interlinked alarms before adding a new alarm into the system?
A.

No, you do not need to remove all the batteries. Just simply press the house code button on all the units. Please ensure that the batteries have full power as this could render the house code process incomplete.

Q. Do the radio interlinked units give out a constant signal all the time and does this decrease the battery life more than a non-interlinked alarm?
A.

Yes, radio interlinked alarms are periodically sending and receiving signals from other units in the network and therefore the life of the battery is reduced. Units with alkaline batteries should have the batteries are changed annually [unless they are fitted with a sealed 10 year battery as eg in the Ei600RF series].

Q. If the radio interlinking signal on one unit fails will the units still work as stand alone units.
A.

Yes, should the radio interlinking signal fail the units will continue to sound independently should they detect a fire.

Q. Do the Ei3100RF alarms require anything other than fixing to the ceiling to install them?
A.

No, with this series of radio interlinked alarms there is nothing other than pressing the house code button required to install them.

Q. Does this alarm conform to BS 5446 part 1 as recommended by the Fire Service?
A.

BS 5446-1:2000 was withdrawn in 2008 and replaced by BS EN 14604:2005 to conform with European standards. All of our alarms containing a smoke detector (smoke only, smoke & heat, smoke & CO) are fully compliant with BS EN 14604:2005. They also comply with any other relevant standards relating to their other detection capabilities.

Q. Can every type of Ei3100 series RF smoke alarm be used as a repeater (a smoke alarm that not only picks up other RF signals but also re-sends it to strengthen the signal and increase the reach of the system)?
A.

Each type of Ei3100RF smoke alarm can be set as a repeater. However, only one repeater per smoke alarm system is allowed.
