Intumescent Fire Collars & Sleeves

Although a traditional pipe collar would not be suitable to go over a T section, a thermal pipe sleeve or pipe wrap would be recommended for this type of application due their flexibility to wrap round even in the most awkward of shapes.

They expand when exposed to heat, sealing service penetrations to prevent the spread of fire and smoke.

Fire collars typically wrap around pipes externally, while fire sleeves are often fitted within wall or floor openings around services such as electrical sockets or other fixtures.

They are commonly required where plastic pipes or cables penetrate fire-rated walls or floors to maintain compartmentation.

They are mainly used on plastic pipes, but suitability depends on product certification and application guidance.

They should be visually inspected as part of routine fire safety checks to ensure they remain intact and correctly installed.

As an additional fire safety precaution, intumescent products may be installed around socket boxes, either internally or externally, to provide further fire protection on electrical equipment and help to prevent electrical fires. The aim of the intumescent material is to provide fire compartmentation when an aperture has been made for the installation of light switches or plug sockets within a wall. Without the intumescent material, if a fire was to break out, it would quickly enter and pass through the wall to more easily spread throughout a premises. Installed intumescent products act as a fire stop / smoke seal for these applications, as well as providing some improvement on acoustic performance.
