Protecting your important contents from burglars is important for any individual or business but fire and water damage also present very real hazards. Secure your documents, CDs, DVDs, cash, jewellery and valuables with a fire and waterproof safe for all-round protection. Our fireproof safes with water protection have UL certification and have passed submersion testing to ensure their suitability.
As well as the insurance rating for the amount of cash and valuables stored within them, safes are also rated by the level of fireproofing and waterproofing they offer. Typically fire resistance can provide protection for between 30 and 120 minutes against temperatures of up to 1,010 °C dependent on the specification of the safe that you buy. Water resistance is available on some models against depths of 8 inches for up to 24 hours, also dependent on specification. Both of these can be important factors as the extinguishing of a fire at your premises could very well involve the spraying of water by the fire and rescue service.
Different materials have a wide range of tolerances when exposed to heat. Although the contents of your safe may not ignite until they reach a high temperature, most materials will begin to degrade in some manner well below these levels. This is particularly true of electronic storage media such as USB memory sticks, hard drives, CDs and DVDs, and older storage formats such as zip drives and DAT tapes, many of which are still in use today. To help you decide which fireproof safe you need, look at the various temperatures at which your valuable information can begin to degrade on our Fireproof Safes and Storage Help & Advice page.
Protecting your valuables from theft and fire is a sensible measure but the risk of damage through exposure to water should also be considered. While the likelihood of your safe coming into contact with large quantities of water may not seem high, bear in mind that flooding is becoming more and more common, and in the case of a fire it is highly probable that the fire and rescue service will use water to extinguish a fire at your home or business. Their timely intervention combined with the fire rating of your safe will likely protect your valuable contents from heat damage, but the resulting water damage may make this redundant.
Combined fireproofing and waterproofing is available on a range of container solutions, from small security boxes for use in the home up to large capacity safes with high insurance ratings for valuables.
By their design, most safes weigh a substantial amount and many can only be moved by mechanical means. Most of our safes come with free delivery to your door but some will be too large and heavy for you to move by hand from there into your premises. By prior arrangement we can deliver such safes into your premises. However, please be aware that there may be additional costs should there be obstacles such as steps present in the property.
