Q. In the unlikely event that the fire safe suffers 950 dC temperature longer than 60minutes, what happens in the internal compartment? Will the paper combust? Would the temperature inside just begin to match the exterior temperature?
A. It would mean that the paper would start charring and could get destroyed. The inside temperature would rise after 60 minutes to a level where charring could occur.
Q. Your fire safe listing says "Paper Protection 60 minutes at 950 c". I assume that means without damage. Don't house fires generally burn longer than that?
A. Yes, houses certainly tend to burn longer. However, the hottest zone of the fire moves through the house, as the fire spreads. Again, this test result has to be seen in context. The safe is most likely on a floor where the temperature in a fire is the lowest. It is unlikely that the safe would ever be exposed to these sort of temperatures for any extended period of time. Nevertheless, the test values give you a good understanding about the resistance of each of the different fire safes on offer. In the tests, the fire safe goes into a furnace at theses temperatures, so its quite a tough testing regime
