Boaters are at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning and in recent years there have been numerous reported cases of CO-related boating deaths on the UK waterways. Carbon monoxide, an extremely poisonous gas produced from poor combustion of fossil fuels such as gas, oil, coal, wood etc, can seep undetected into the living areas of your boat from enerator and engine rooms as well as from cookers and other fossil fuel appliances. The only way to protect yourself is to install a CO detector.
Not all CO detectors are suitable for use on boats, here is a selection of carbon monoxide detectors that have been certified to BS EN50291-2:2010, the British Standard relating to CO detectors for camping or for use on boats and in caravans.
