Intumescent fire door seals swell if there is a fire and stop the spread of fire through the gaps at the top and sides of fire doors. If the passage of cold smoke needs to be stopped as well you need to fit seals with an additional brush seal. Our rebated or surface-mounted intumescent fire door seals resist fire for 30 or 60 minutes (suitable for FD30 or FD60 fire doors). All our fire doore seals are available for single and double fire doors. The seals can be fitted in the frame or the door leaf.
Fire doors stop the spread of fire, however, there are always gaps around fire doors and unless these gaps are filled, fire and smoke can spread through these gaps.
This is where fire door seals come in. These are fitted to the top and the sides of a fire door. When a fire breaks out the heat of the fire causes the intumescent in the fire door seal to swell, closing off the gaps around the door. This stops the fire lapping through the gaps and slows the spread of the fire.
Intumescent fire door seals with additional cold smoke seals are required for fire doors marked with an 's' by the specifier of the fire door, eg FD30S. However, there are applications where a brushed cold smoke seal would actually be unhelpful, for example if a small side room such as a broom cupboard without fire alarm leads to a corridor with fire alarm. In this case it is important that the door allows the leakage of cold smoke from a fire in the broom cupboard to set off the alarm in the corridor.
We offer a full range of rebated intumescent fire door seals as well as surface-mounted fire door seals for retro-fitting. Some of our seals include brushes to keep back cold smoke as well. All the seals are prepared in door kits whether for single or double doors and are available in different colours.
