Digital Display Carbon Monoxide Detectors

A carbon monoxide detector is typically a small rectangular or circular device, usually white or cream coloured, resembling a smoke alarm with a test button, status LED and, in digital models, an LCD screen displaying CO levels.

A digital carbon monoxide detector is most effective when mounted at head height (approximately 1.5 metres) on a wall, positioned at least 15cm from the ceiling and 1 to 3 metres from potential CO sources.

A CO alarm with display is designed with a specific operational lifespan, typically around 7 years. Check your manufacturer's guidelines for replacement schedules and replace immediately if the device shows fault warnings or reaches its expiry date.

A digital CO detector reading is considered safe when it remains below the Health and Safety Executive's specified level of 50ppm for 30 minutes. Any persistent readings above normal background levels warrant investigation. Constant low-level readings could be impacting your health, particularly in vulnerable individuals such as young children, the elderly and pregnant women.

A digital carbon monoxide alarm is specifically designed to detect carbon monoxide only, not natural gas or propane leaks, which require separate gas detectors.
