It is crucial that outside access devices do not compromise the performance of escape hardware when fitted. All Exidor external access devices are carefully designed to ensure that the door functions as an entrance when needed, but as an emergency exit at all times.
When the door is locked, the opening mechanism is disengaged allowing the knob to rotate freely on the outside of the door. This helps to secure the device against tampering or any attempts to access the building via force. Locking the door from the outside does not affect the performance of the escape hardware inside the building, meaning the escape route remains viable at all times.
When the device is left unlocked, the spindle and mechanism engage with the device on the inside of the door. This allows the knob to be used like a standard door handle to gain access to the building. The knob activates that panic hardware to withdraw the shoots or latch which hold the door closed.
Please note: The knob remains engaged/active until the door is re-locked.
