Evacuation Chair Maintenance and Training

Maintaining your evacuation equipment is a legal requirement

Once appropriate evacuation equipment has been chosen and installed, it is necessary to periodically maintain all devices to ensure peak performance in the event of an emergency.

Safelincs offers Evac+Chair servicing across mainland UK. EVAC+CHAIR Servicing is carried out by specialist engineers who are able to carry out any necessary repairs on-site. Customers will receive a service certificate ensuring they comply with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER):

Maintenance

  1. Every employer shall ensure that work equipment is maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair.
  2. Every employer shall ensure that where any machinery has a maintenance log, the log is kept up to date.

How often should an evacuation chair be serviced?

Servicing should be carried out annually to ensure that the device remains effective and fit for purpose. At the time of servicing, it is useful to review the evacuation equipment in place on your site and ensure that it is still suitable for the needs of the building users – new employees or occupants with different needs may require additional evacuation devices.

Do you have to be trained to use an evacuation chair?

Evacuation chairs are simple to use, but do require specialist training for safe operation. Safelincs can deliver Evac+Chair training for up to 6 delegates, as well as train the trainer courses for up to 3 delegates (enabling your staff to train other staff members internally).

How often should evacuation chair training be carried out?

Refresher training for evacuation chairs should be carried out every two years – it is a legal requirement that anyone operating the device has received up to date training.
