Britannia Fire

Britannia Fire is a UK manufacturer founded in 1970 by Roger Carr in Ashwellthorpe, Norfolk. They manufacture portable and wheeled fire extinguishers and hold the British patent on the P50: the world's first composite fire extinguisher, launched in 2010. All Britannia extinguishers carry the BSI Kitemark, a standard Britannia has held for over 35 years. We're an authorised Britannia stockist and one of the UK's leading suppliers of the P50 range.

The P50 service-free extinguisher range

The P50 is the main reason most organisations switch to Britannia. It's built from composite materials rather than steel, so it doesn't corrode. That's the core of what makes it different.

Because there's nothing to corrode, you don't need an annual service visit from a third-party engineer. A simple visual inspection by one of your own team each year is all it takes to stay compliant. No discharge test in five years. No replacement parts. Just a ten-year operational guarantee and a 20-year lifespan, with a factory refurbishment available at the ten-year mark.

Each P50 is about 50% lighter than a traditional steel extinguisher of the same capacity. It's UV-resistant and weatherproof, so it works outdoors as well as in. And if you use a P50 to fight a fire, we'll refill or replace the unit free of charge.

We offer free delivery, installation and certification on orders of five or more P50 extinguishers. Our BAFE-certified engineers install the units and train you or your team to carry out the annual inspection. After that training, you qualify as a competent person under the servicing standard.

P50 Water Mist Tackles Class A fires and is safe on electrical equipment up to 1000 volts. A single unit can often replace a traditional water and CO2 combination fire point. A good fit for offices, schools, care homes, hotels and most indoor environments.

P50 Fluorine-Free A-Foam Free from the PFAS chemicals found in traditional AFFF foam. Rated for Class A fires and electrical equipment up to 1000 volts. A more environmentally responsible replacement for AFFF foam in most settings. A UK ban on PFAS-containing firefighting agents is expected by 2030, so switching now means you're already ahead of it.

P50 Powder Covers Class A, B, C and electrical fires. Available in 2kg, 6kg and 9kg. Please note: BS 5306-8:2012 advises against using powder indoors because of the mess and the effect on visibility and breathing. Water mist or foam is usually a better fit for indoor use.

P50 Wet Chemical For Class F fires involving cooking oils and fats, and suitable on electrical equipment. The right choice for commercial kitchens and catering environments.

P50 Lithium-Ion AVD For Class A fires and lithium-ion battery fires. As e-bikes, electric vehicles and battery storage become more common, having the right extinguisher for a lithium-ion fire is increasingly important. Standard extinguishers can't handle thermal runaway.

Norfolk wheeled extinguishers

For industrial-scale fire risks, the Norfolk wheeled range is built for large Class B and C fires at range. The 50kg BC dry powder model discharges over 35 seconds at up to 14 metres and comes with a five-metre reinforced hose. A 50kg Monnex powder version is also available for sites with a higher risk of flammable liquid or gas fires.
