Q. Can you please explain the closing force rating for door closers?
A. The closing force rating, also called "power size," relates to the maximum width and weights of fire door that the door closer is suitable for.
Q. Can this be used on standard doors as well as fire doors?
A. All fire door closers can be used on standard doors but please be mindful of the size and weight of your door. Fire doors require a power size of at least EN3 as they are often much heavier and require a higher powered closer to ensure they shut correctly. If an EN3 closer is used on a much lighter door, it could lead to the door slamming. For standard (non-fire) doors, we would recommend that you look for a closer that has a fixed low power size (EN1 or EN2) or an adjustable power size (between EN1 and EN4 for example). EN1 closers are suitable for doors weighing up to 20kg and with a width no larger than 750mm so would suit most internal domestic (non-fire) doors. View the .
