First Aid Awareness
Duration and Level of Assessment
First Aid Awareness on-site training is a half day (3 hour) course. Candidates are assessed by a qualified first aid trainer through continuous observation. All successful candidates receive a First Response Training certificate - valid for 3 years.
Course Contents
The First Aid Awareness course has been designed for those looking to increase their knowledge of basic first aid skills but do not require (under health and safety regulations) to learn resuscitation or CPR techniques. Learning objectives of the First Aid Awareness course are shown below.
- List the stages of incident assessment
- Demonstrate adult resuscitation
- Demonstrate the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Explain and demonstrate adult choking procedures
- Demonstrate the management on an unconscious casualty
- Be able to control severe bleeding and treat for shock
- Describe the treatment for burns and scalds
- Explain how to work within the limits of their new skills
First Aid at Work Requalification
Duration and Level of Assessment
First Aid at Work Requalification on-site training is a 2 day course. Candidates are assessed by a qualified first aid trainer through continuous observation, with a final overall assessment at the end of the second day. All successful candidates receive a First Response Training certificate - valid for 3 years.
Course Contents
The First Aid at Work Requalification course has been designed for persons who have previously completed the First Aid at Work training, and are now required to renew their certificate. Candidates refresh their first aid knowledge and skills and are given revision time for their final assessment. Under HSE recommendation, requalification is to be completed within 1 month of the First Aid at Work certificate expiry date.
