Mains powered optical smoke alarm from EI, available as a replacement smoke alarm detector head or complete with mounting base plate. This is the latest Ei146"RC" detector - now capable of interlinking with the Ei1529RC remote control switch. The Ei146RC replaces the previous Ei146 model but can still be used to extend and interlink to an existing Ei140 system.
Please Note: The simple installation process of the easichange replacement kit negates the need of an electrician.
The table below shows all the units that can interlink with the EI140 series.

Wiring Explained
Mains powered Ei Electronics smoke and heat alarms require a 230V AC power supply and up to 12 alarms can be hardwire interlinked in one system.
To obtain a mains power supply, each alarm can be connected to the nearest lighting circuit using 2 core and earth cable with a separate, dedicated interlink cable connecting all alarms. However, if possible it is recommended that the alarms are all powered from a dedicated circuit from the distribution board using 3 core and earth cable for safety during maintenance, as the interlink cable will carry power from live alarms on other power circuits. Product Datasheets |
We recommend using an optical smoke alarm in hallways, as these are less likely to go off because of cooking fumes from a connected kitchen. Optical smoke alarms are also ideal for living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, as they are good at detecting smouldering fires from soft furnishings. For landings we recommend ionisation alarms. Heat alarms are designed for kitchens and garages. No alarms should be installed in bathrooms.
The Ei 140 series with radio-interlink bases would be suitable for this application:
Ei168RC/141 ionisation: best for landings
Ei168RC/146 optical: best for hallway, living rooms etc
Ei168RC/144 heat detector: best for kitchen and garage
Alternatively the Ei160 series (again with radio-interlink bases):
Ei168RC/161RC ionisation: best for landings
Ei168RC/166RC optical: best for hallway, living rooms etc
Ei168RC/164RC heat detector: best for kitchen and garage
There are also battery operated radio-interlinked smoke alarms available (See Ei3100RF and Ei600RF series)
For the mains supply of the first unit a 2-core earth cable would be sufficient. For the connection between the alarms a 3-core earth cable would be required
Yes, we recommend the Ei261EN. You should also install a Ei159 locator to allow you to find out if the alarm was triggered by CO gas or by fire.
To wire the units correctly you would use 2 core and earth cable to the first unit and 3 core and earth to the interconnected units. The alarms do not have to be earthed but a brass screw connector is provided so that the earth can be safety terminated.
Yes, the new Ei3000 series is fully backward compatible and will work directly with the the Ei140 series base. Both the power supply and the interlink with any remaining Ei140 alarms will continue to work with your new Ei3000 alarm.
The RC just refers to "Remote Control" as the unit can be fitted to a radio-frequency base for interconnection. The model hasn't changed but the manufacturers changed the product code slightly in reference to this.
For mains powered Aico alarms with a new, fully charged lithium back up battery, the battery would last approx. 3-6 months without a mains supply. For mains powered Aico alarms with a standard alkaline back up battery, the battery would last up to a year without mains supply. If the alarm has been installed with an Ei168RC radio frequency base, please note that the Ei168RC back up battery would last approx 2 months if the power fails.
