Providing a discreet and tailored extinguisher servicing contract to some of London’s most expensive luxury apartments was no challenge to Safelincs.
The facilities management team tasked with arranging the annual service of their stylish stainless steel fire extinguishers that reflect the sophisticated character of the building needed a company who could carry out the task discreetly and ‘invisibly’. Due to the exclusive nature of the apartments and the expectations of the owners, high standards and professionalism were a must.
After listening to the needs of our client we drew up a plan to undertake all servicing from our vehicle parked in the underground car park below the main building. Water containers were brought along to refill the water based extinguishers and waste water tanks on the van were used for storing the redundant extinguishing liquids for later environmentally responsible disposal.
As well as carrying out the annual service of the stainless steel fire extinguishers in the communal areas of the building we also installed P50 service-free extinguishers in the operations areas, where the distinguished owners do not venture. The P50 extinguisher does not require an annual service by a trained extinguisher engineer and has an initial life span of 10 years, saving costs for the FM company.
All the servicing work was carried out without any inconvenience to the residents of the building. In fact they didn’t even notice it was going on. The Director of Engineering for the building commented: “Your technicians were excellent, a real credit and I would have no hesitation in recommending Safelincs in the future.”
All businesses and organisations have to maintain fire safety logbooks to record their regular equipment tests and findings. Just to give one example, fire extinguishers have to be visually inspected on a monthly base, serviced yearly and refilled usually after five years (except, of course, the service free P50 fire extinguishers). Fire alarms have to be tested and serviced as well and the list of fire safety equipment requiring regular servicing just goes on and on. Most inspections will be on different dates, so keeping track of your compliance can be a real challenge. If your company is spread over multiple sites, the challenge becomes even more daunting. Multiple members of staff will be involved in the compliance checking and will have to report their data to a central office.
Safelincs has developed a FREE online multi-user fire safety logbook which not only allows the recording of maintenance across multiple sites but also manages a reminder system for all people involved. The system supports the Responsible Person in the central office with an insight into the overall fire safety recording status. The fire safety logbook will hold all the data for you, however, a backup copy can be printed out at any time. And best of all – this service is entirely free! To use this online fire safety logbook visit our website.
Safelincs has for many years carried out fire alarm system installations and servicing. However, whilst we have been able to give online quotes for new wireless fire alarm systems we had not been able to provide simple online quotes for nationwide fire alarm system servicing without prior discussion with the customer and/or site surveys. This challenge has now been mastered and Safelincs can now offer clear pricing for fire alarm system servicing online; the price remains the same wherever our customer is based in the UK and whatever type of system is installed. The price is unaffected by the customer’s location and is calculated from the number of devices connected to the system.
Our service is carried out in accordance with BS5839-1:2013 and covers all tests and certification to comply with the standard. If defects are found, there is a fixed hourly rate to deal with the repairs (should you wish us to carry out the work). Any replacement components are priced at our competitive online sales prices.
We also offer our contract customers an out of hour emergency service to give you advice about silencing a false alarm. Should we be unable to rectify the problem over the phone we will attend the site within 8 hours.
To book our fire alarm system servicing, just fill in our email contact form on our fire alarm servicing page or contact us by telephone. We will then contact you with a service agreement to be signed and returned so that we can arrange the service visit, at the price already stated online.
F1 racing driver Mark Webber takes the lead in fire safety technology by equipping his home with Fireworld extinguishers.
Fireworld extinguishers are made of composite plastics, including Kevlar, usually associated with bullet-proof vests, and last a full ten years without any refill – and without a single extinguisher maintenance visit! The extinguishers are tested under extreme circumstances – they are pressurised 12000 times to 25 bar before being flattened by a steel blade. After this gruelling treatment they are pressurised to 55 bar without being allowed to leak! These extinguishers are helping our customers to save costs and help the environment – They can be refurbished after 10 years and are then guaranteed again for another 10 years. Over their lifetime, they save around 18 call-outs and two refills!
Mark Webber stated: ‘In my line of business we don’t leave safety to chance. Protecting my home and those in it is very important to me and I also value privacy. The Fireworld extinguishers provide this peace of mind as they have a 10 year guarantee and don’t require annual servicing.’
Ecclesiastical Insurance, the largest insurer of faith organisations in the UK, such as the Church of England and the Catholic Church, have confirmed that they are happy to insure organisations where the P50 maintenance free fire extinguishers are installed.
This formal announcement follows recent acceptance statements from other insurers. The insurance industry’s embrace of the self-maintenance extinguishers is a major breakthrough for many businesses and organisations, as changing to the maintenance-free extinguishers could save each organisation up to £300 over the lifetime of an extinguisher. Purchasing P50 extinguishers could not be easier. After completing the order, one of our BAFE certified engineers will visit the installation location and carry out a free site survey, ensuring that the correct type and number of extinguishers are installed. The extinguishers are then installed by the engineer and a demonstration of the simple yearly visual check, which can be completed by any able-bodied person, is given. The visual check process can be viewed through a video, too. The visit by the extinguisher engineer and all these activities are already included in the price of the extinguisher.
The P50 maintenance-free extinguishers have already been installed in many faith organisations and businesses. For further information visit https://www.safelincs.co.uk/britannia/ or call 0800 612 6717
