Product Overview

This alarm is the radio-interlinked version of the Ei2110, a multi-sensor fire alarm that contains two separate sensing elements – optical and heat. As the unit monitors two different by-products of fires (smoke and temperature), its response to all types of fire is vastly improved over traditional single sensor alarms and reduces the number of false alarms in the premises.

  • Kitemarked to BS EN 14604:2005 and CE marked
  • Suitable for installations complying to BS 5839-6: 2013 Grade D, E and F
  • Each unit consists of a radio-frequency base-plate and the Ei2110 alarm sensor
  • Suitable for living rooms, bedrooms, hallway, landings (not kitchen or garage)
  • 230V Hard-wired alarm with two sensors - optical smoke and heat
  • Re-chargeable lithium battery backup guaranteed for 10 years
  • Requires no cables between units
  • Can be powered from the nearest light fitting
  • A maximum of 12 alarms can be interconnected
  • Built-in radioLINK repeater function allows for the RF signal to work around obstructions
  • RF range: 150 metres in free space and up to 30 metres in buildings
  • Alarms that can also be interconnected with include:
    - Ei168RC/Ei161, Ei168RC/EI164, Ei168RC/Ei166
  • Provides low battery warning and features a test/hush button facility
  • 5 year warranty
  • Unique dust compensation feature (the alarm automatically adjusts for any contamination within the optical sensor chamber)
  • Supplied with fixings; 2 x screws and 2 x rawl plugs

Please Note: These units use the radio-interlink frequency 868.499MHz. This bandwidth is restricted for safety products, therefore the chances of interference should be limited.

Wiring Explained

The radio interlinked Ei2110 multi-sensor alarm requires a 230V AC mains power supply to each unit. Up to 12 Ei2110 and Ei160 series of alarms can be wirelessly interconnected by radio signal.

To obtain a mains feed, each alarm can be connected to its nearest lighting circuit using 2 core and earth cable. Please note that the separate lighting circuits must have a permanent live supply to all alarms. Radio frequency signals are then used for the wireless interconnection. FAQs (9)

Q. For mains powered Aico smoke and heat alarms, when the electricity supply fails and the back up battery takes over, please can you tell me how long the battery will last in this situation?

A. For mains powered Aico alarms with a new, fully charged lithium back up battery, the battery would last approx. 3-6 months without a mains supply. For mains powered Aico alarms with a standard alkaline back up battery, the battery would last up to a year without mains supply. If the alarm has been installed with an Ei168RC radio frequency base, please note that the Ei168RC back up battery would last approx 2 months if the power fails.

Q. Please could you explain how the repeater function works on the Aico/Ei radio interlinked detectors.

A. Hello. The radioLINK repeater function allows the smoke alarm to "repeat" the radio frequency signal around obstructions. This stops the signal from becoming blocked and ensures that all interlinked alarms can be reached. This repeater function is built-in to the the Ei168RC radioLINK base (with Ei140, Ei160 or Ei2110 alarm), the Ei600 series of radio interlinked battery powered smoke and heat alarms as well as the Ei262 and Ei208WRF carbon monoxide alarms as standard. When house coded, the system works itself out which alarms are to act as repeaters - it's not something you set up yourself.

Q. Does this alarm conform to BS 5446 part 1 as recommended by the Fire Service?

A. This recommendation has been superseded by BS 14604:2005. All of our smoke and heat alarms conform to this standard in accordance with the Kitemark.

Q. My ceiling light is on a dimmer switch. Can I still power my radio-interlinked mains smoke alarms from this lighting supply?

A. In modern housing the lighting circuit will travel around your house with the lights being fed from it. Between the circuit and the light will be a switch (or in this case a dimmer) which will control the light. Your mains powered alarms are connected directly to the circuit and have constant power, so are not affected by switches or dimmers.
In older homes that have not had the electrics updated this may not be the case so it is advisable to consult an electrician.

Q. Can the mains powered smoke alarm range be connected to mains power via the lighting circuit?

A. Yes, hard-wired mains powered alarms can be wired to the unswitched live feed of the nearest frequently used lighting circuit.
