New Buildings as well as a range of conversions and modifications require mains-powered and inter-connected smoke detectors (BS5839 part 6 - Grade D). These smoke detectors can be powered from the 'always-on' points in a light fitting or from the fuse box. There are 3 different types of alarms: ionisation, optical and heat detectors. Ionisation detectors are used for the landing, optical smoke detectors are used in the hall, near a kitchen and in living quarters, while heat detectors are used in the kitchen and garage.
All our mains-powered smoke detectors have a back-up battery to power the smoke detector if the mains power should fail. You can choose between an alkaline back-up battery which needs to be changed regularly or you can choose a re-chargeable lithium back-up battery, which will work over the full life of the alarm (10 years)
