Legislation Requirements

This Evac+Chair Operator Training course gives your staff confidence to safely evacuate people with mobility impairments in an emergency. A certified course that lasts 2 hours and covers both theoretical and practical evacuation chair usage, including H&S advice. The training is delivered at your site by a qualified trainer using your own Evac+Chair evacuation chairs, giving you real hands on experience of an emergency evacuation using an evacuation chair. It is a legal requirement to ensure your staff are trained in the use of your evacuation chair and this training needs refreshing every three years.

Certified training course lasting 2 hours for 2 to 4 people
Training and practical assessment takes place at your site
- Requires the use of your own Evac+Chair evacuation chair and stairwell for the 2-hour duration
- Staff are in a familiar environment without any travel arrangements
- Skills are practised with the equipment and location as they would be used in an emergency
Extensive training course offering hands on practical training as well as theory and H&S advice
Certificate for all attendees after successful completion
Once trained, delegates do not need any refresher training for a period of 3 years
Training is offered on the full range of EVAC+CHAIR evacuation chairs

Legislation Requirements

Equal opportunity and health and safety requirements are guided by a number of current legislations. Evac+Chair evacuation chairs provide a solution to the evacuation needs of those who are less able or injured, in both commercial and residential applications. Legislation requirements to be met by building operators and employers include:

Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 – Means of escape
Building Regulations Parts B and M – Building use and access
BS5588-8:1999 – Providing disabled people with measures to be assisted in an emergency
Equality Act 2009 – Ensuring that disabled people are not at a disadvantage compared to those that are not disabled
DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) – Providing adequate access and facilities for any disabled person who may enter a building

Evac+Chairs are Class I Medical Devices with their installation and use regulated under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER). Employers, self-employed people, and those employed to supervise or manage equipment are responsible for ensuring that a reasonable amount of staff are adequately trained to use Evac+Chairs safely, that the chairs are annually serviced by a qualified engineer, and that they are regularly inspected by a competent worker.
