The easichange Ei164EK replacement head kit has been specifically designed to allow an Ei164, Ei164RC or Ei164e heat alarm head (the main and most visible part of the smoke alarm containing the sensor and the electronics) to be replaced at the end of its life without the need of an electrician. The kit is a genuine Ei Electronics product and contains the alarm head, a removal tool and the simple guidance required to quickly and safely replace your heat alarm head. The heat alarm base with the wiring is left on the ceiling in this process.
The simple installation process of the easichange replacements kits negates the need of an electrician.
This is the technical data for the Easichange Replacement Heat Alarm for Ei164, Ei164RC and Ei164e.

Q. Can I upgrade an existing Ei140 series base with a Ei160 series smoke alarm?
A. Yes, the bases for the Ei140 and Ei160 series are identical units and are interchangeable.
Q. Do you supply a tool to remove a mains powered smoke alarm from the base to replace the backup battery and the replacement battery required?
A. Unfortunately we do not sell the Easichange tool separate to the kits, however you could also try a small flat head screw driver once the mains power has been cut off from the unit. We do sell the 9v lithium longlife batteries required for these alarms. http://www.safelincs.co.uk/FDK-Long-Life-Lithium-Battery/
Q. What type of electrical cable is required to carry the mains supply and trigger signal for the wired alarms?
A. For the mains supply of the first unit a 2-core earth cable would be sufficient. For the connection between the alarms a 3-core earth cable would be required
Q. Which smoke alarms have an auxiliary switched output to activate a remote sounder?
A. The Ei140 series or Ei160 series of detectors can be used with Ei167 remote sounder.
Q. How can we test the alarm to make sure it is working?
A. The manufacturer's recommendation is to test the alarm by pressing the test button. This will simulate a heat input at the heat sensor. You can also test it with a hair dryer but make sure that the hairdryer is kept away at a suitable distance from the alarm. Do not attempt to test the alarm by using open fire or excessive heat as this may damage the unit.
