We recommend the use of ionisation alarms on landings and stairwells, as rising heat from fires downstairs can fast be detected by ionisation alarms at high elevations. Having smoke detection in these communal areas can often create an early warning to potential fires in lower levels of a building.
Ionisation alarms can detect fumes in the environment created by burning materials, they do not work on the content of smoke in the air so for fast flaming fires they are more effective. With a variety of battery or mains powered alarms and the option of stand-alone or interconnected functionality there is a suitable optical smoke alarm for every application.
