Kidde Firex 4899 and 4892's are mains powered interconnectable heat alarms.  These hard wired units have battery back-up cells and can be interconnected with other units from the series to create all round fire protection within the home.  Heat alarms are the ideal detectors for kitchens and garages and are perfect for reducing nuisance alarms.

Please Note: The Kidde Firex 4899 and 4892 are replacements for the Kidde 3239HI and 3239HILLs and can be interconnected however the new models cannot be used on the same base plates and use different connector blocks.

Q.How can we test the alarm to make sure it is working?

A.The manufacturer's recommendation is to test the alarm by pressing the test button. This will simulate a heat input at the heat sensor. You can also test it with a hair dryer but make sure that the hairdryer is kept away at a suitable distance from the alarm. Do not attempt to test the alarm by using open fire or excessive heat as this may damage the unit.

Great. Tested with a blowtorch (from a safe distance without melting it!), and it works like a charm. Put it in the kitchen and interlinked it with two Kidde 1275h ionisation alarms (checked with Kidde, and this is an OK combination even though it doesn't say so in the manuals). When they all go off it's absolutely ear-splitting! I feel reassured that I won't be burning to death at home, although I may have temporary hearing loss if there is a fire.
