Ionisation smoke alarms were some of the first smoke alarms produced. They contain a weak radio-active source and react very fast to fast flaming fires and any traces of smoke. We recommend them on landings but not anywhere near kitchens where the smoke from burn toast tends to set them off even at a distance.
