Evacuation sledges are used to move immobile patients if there is a fire alarm or other emergency. The sledge is placed next to the patient and the patient is then transferred onto the sledge, fastened safely before the evacuation sledge is lifted off the bed. The sledge can be moved safely down any stairs without risk to nurses or patient.
