The Dorgard fire door retainer holds fire doors open without breaking the law. The Dorgard releases the fire door when the fire alarm sounds and allows the door closer to shut the door. Dorgards are set in the open position with a plunger operated by your foot and the hold-open function can be overridden by either tapping the plunger or pushing against the fire door. Fire door retainers hold fire doors open until the fire alarm system releases the fire door allowing it to shut. Most fire door retainers contain an electromagnetic magnet holding a steel plate fitted to the fire door. In the case of a fire alarm the power supply to the magnet is cut and the steelplate is released. The retainers can be floor mounted or wall mounted and have release override buttons.
