The Davy Descender allows quick emergency escape from upper storeys or high work platforms by providing automatic, controlled descent. The unit operates by allowing a cable with a sling at each end to pass through a geared braking unit which controls the descent rate at a steady speed. Unlike other evacuation devices the Davy Descender has two evacuation slings. When one sling descends the second sling ascends allowing multiple evacuations to be performed.
  • Manufactured in the UK
  • 10 Year Warranty
  • Geared braking mechanism ensures a controlled rate of descent. The typical speed is 1meter/second, irrespective of weight or height
  • The braking mechanism is Double Acting with a quick to fit harness sling on both ends of the cable, allowing escape by an unlimited number of people (one at a time)
  • Suitable for upper storey buildings, cranes, balconies and as an additional fall protection on vertical ladders as an alternative to a safety cage
  • The unit should be permanently hung at the fixing point

 Anchoring the Descender

The anchoring point for the descender must be of adequate strength (recommended 10kN minimum in the descent direction). Only one descender should be used at any one anchor point and if possible it should be permanently hung from the fixing eye. If it is not possible to permanently hang the descender from the anchor point it should be stored in a location where it is readily accessible and it is ensured that the cable does not become slack or tangled.

Anchoring Inside Buildings

If the descender is being used to escape from a building it should be fixed internally, beside the exit window/door at about 1.8m in height. The unit should be anchored by attaching the fixing eye to one of the recommended fixing bolts.

Anchoring Externally

If the descender is being used to escape from an external location it should be made readily accessible and be protected from the elements. The fixing point should about 1.8m above the step-off point.

Fixing Bolts (Price of the bolts is included in the price)

The Davy Descenders are available with 4 different types of fixing eye bolts which vary depending upon the type of material the unit will be fixed to. The types of fixing bolts that are available are:

Type A - Full Wall Bolt
Full wall eyebolt with plates for fixing through a wall.
Type B - Eye Screw for Heavy Timbers
Wall eye screw for fixing into heavy timbers.
Type C - Short Wall Bolt

Short version of Type A for fixing through steel girders or roof trusses.

Type D - Expanding Wall Bolt for Brickwork

Expanding wall eyebolt for fixing into brickwork, masonry or concrete.

Q.Can the Davy Descender be permanently fixed on an outside wall without any protection?

A.No, the Davy Descender can not be fixed on to an outside wall unprotected from the elements. It can be stored in a weatherproof box outside near to the anchor point, on a roof for example, and then removed and attached to the anchor point when needed.
