Summary of this standard
This publication provides recommendations for the colour coding that should be used to indicate the type of extinguishing media contained in a portable fire extinguisher. The standard also specifies the size and location of the colouring on the extinguisher. The requirements of the colour coding of portable fire extinguishers set out in BS 7863:2009 only applies to new extinguishers.
This version of BS 7863 replaces BS 7863:1996, which has now been withdrawn.
