Achieves the same fire extinguishing rating as a 9 ltr water fire extinguisher with lower overall weight through the use of additives. Due to these additives these extinguishers have also passed the electrical conductivity test at 35kV and are therefore safe if accidentally used on electrical equipment.

Q. Can you tell me why a 6 litre water extinguisher with additive has the same rating as a 9 litre water extinguisher without additive (21A)?
A.
The chemical additives in water additive fire extinguishers lower the surface tension of the water. The lowered surface tension makes the water soak into burning materials quicker and easier, so that they are more effective in tackling the fire. Other chemicals (i.e. soaping agents such as those found in foam fire extinguishers) are usually mixed with these chemicals, lowering the surface tension still further, increasing the cooling and smothering effect and increasing the waters fire-fighting capabilities.
